Melody Gardot’s new album is an extremely charming continuation of her lightning career. Production and orchestral arrangements from the hands of Grammy Award winners Larry Klein and Vince Mendoza add just the right amount of depth to the honeyed voice of this young woman with a tragic story. Many of her self-penned songs sound like classics of Amercian songbook history on first listen. They never lack the necessary pinch of jazz or blues, but remain elegant, light-footed and sexy. Many journalists are already conjuring up the next Norah Jones here. Is this comparison a blessing or a curse? Be that as it may – Melody Gardot is in any case a seductive diva with a lot of talent.
