In the two decades of her career, Norwegian Ane Brun has come a long way since performing other people’s songs on the streets of Barcelona.

Today, she is a popular singer-songwriter with ten studio albums and numerous awards to her name. With her unique, expressive voice and intuitive sense of melody, she continues the high art of the cover version. In Brun’s hands, even songs that feel untouchable are brought closer and shown in a new and intimate light. Whether she’s reinterpreting Beyoncé’s triumphant „Halo” with a cello arrangement by Linnea Olsson or imbuing Radiohead’s „How To Disappear Completely” with a haunting fragility, she dives in fearlessly, searching for the emotional core of each song and working her way from there. Portrayals gathers together for the first time twelve of Brun’s most popular cover versions, as well as a previously unreleased version of the Rodgers & Hart standard „Blue Moon.”

Brun’s arrangements, which have been streamed a total of over 250 million times on Spotify and featured in film soundtracks, commercials, and groundbreaking television series such as „Normal People” and „Peaky Blinders,” move in delicate, memorable, and often startling ways. Portrayals is the first in a series of planned releases in 2023 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of her debut album, Spending Time With Morgan. „Covers are an important part of my career,” Brun says. „It’s almost its own career. It has its own momentum. I wanted to celebrate that by giving these songs their own space.”
