Apocalyptica are pleased to announce a stunning follow-up to their legendary debut album. „Apocalyptica Plays Metallica Vol. 2” will continue the journey that began in 1996, when cellists from the world-famous Sibelius Academy in Helsinki played a symphonic tribute to the greatest of the big four – heavy metal titans Metallica. For their ninth album, the classically oriented dynamos return to their roots to bring a legendary story full circle. There are also a number of surprises, starting with a unique collaboration.

The lead single „The Four Horsemen” from Metallica’s 1983 debut album „Kill ‘Em All” is performed by Metallica bassist Rob Trujillo and kicks off a compendium of profound songs and brilliant highlights from Metallica’s 40-year career – and there are even more surprises.

Band founder Eicca Toppinen comments: „This is the coolest thing ever. We didn’t push – it was offered to us. We played the first album live and it was so much more fun and exciting than we expected, so we had the idea to do something like the first album, but we couldn’t do it in exactly the same way – we had to challenge ourselves and bring a whole new perspective to the original energy and emotion of Metallica.”

Lead cellist Perttu Kivilaakso adds: „We’ve been talking about making another Metallica album for about 20 years, as there were still so many great songs we wanted to play! We’ve been waiting for the perfect moment to do it. When I think of my teenage self now getting to play his favorite songs, I get goosebumps!”

This album will be the band’s last studio release with Apocalyptica’s longtime member, drummer Mikko Sirén, who amicably left the band after the completion of the new album. „Plays Metallica Vol. 2” was produced by Joe Barresi (Queens of the Stone Age, Soundgarden, Nine Inch Nails, Tool).
