So you think you know Arjen Lucassen, huh? The towering Dutch prog-rock polymath? The man behind super-successful prog-rock concept artists Ayreon? Not to mention his prog-metal offshoots Star One and Guilt Machine? Huge, overarching concept albums about space and time, packed with special guests that read like a Who’s Who of modern progressive rock? Albums that take as long to conceive as they do to record? That Arjen Lucassen? Well, think again….
„Golden Age Of Music„, the latest album of Lucassen’s not inconsiderable talent, may also offer excellent musicianship and killer melodies, but there is no story set far in the future in the depths of space. Nor are the album’s 11 tracks contributed by an endless list of guest musicians. The end result is 11 tracks of energetic, progressive heavy rock that swings with the kind of groove that Deep Purple rocked with in the early to mid 1970s.
For this Supersonic Revolution album, multi-instrumentalist Lucassen covers bass, as well as writing, recording, engineering, producing and mixing duties, with Timo Somers on guitar, Joost van den Broek to the fore on keyboards (Jon Lord/Tony Carey/Don Airey-style), and Koen Herfst impressing throughout on drums.
