„Forever” is a 1993 album by British shoegaze band Cranes, building on the trend of the band’s previous albums and focusing primarily on the unique vocals of Alison Shaw. The album contains elements of shoegaze, dream pop and gothic rock and includes the singles „Adrift” and „Jewel”. The album begins with hypnotic guitar chords in the first track „Everywhere”.
Songs like „Cloudless,” „And Ever” and „Far Away” show how the band takes an extremely minimalist approach to their songwriting, sometimes nothing more than a piano accompanying Alison’s vocals. The songs „Adrift” and „Clear” are heavy post-punk rock numbers and „Jewel” became an underground hit in England and the U.S., albeit due to an alternate remix by Cranes fan Robert Smith („Forever” takes its title from a The Cure B-side of the same name).
„Forever” proved to be a favorite among fans and critics. It is a lost treasure of early 90s dream pop and delivers a unique and enchantingly beautiful music.
