“Exciter,” produced by British techno pioneer Mark Bell, was the first Depeche Mode album of the 21st century. On this album, Dave Gahan, Martin Gore and Andrew Fletcher experimented with acoustic song structures in addition to ambient sounds and continued to rely on catchy melodies.
