Elton John’s long-awaited first UK No.1 „Sacrifice” was released on August 29, 1989. His 22nd studio album Sleeping With The Past was also released on that day.

Sleeping With The Past became a platinum album in the U.S., although it reached a relatively modest peak of 23 there. The album reached #2 in Australia and France and topped the charts in Switzerland, New Zealand and the UK.

The late success of „Sacrifice” in Elton’s home country eventually helped the album reach No. 1 there nearly a year after its release, in July 1990. It was his fifth LP to top the charts there, and the first since his Greatest Hits collection nearly 16 years earlier.
