In 1983, no one could have imagined that Metallica would one day be one of the biggest bands in the world. Nobody had ever heard the kind of music played by the four young guns from California. Until that summer, nothing sounded as hard, as intense and at the same time as precisely furious as their debut Kill ‘Em All. Just a year later, the barely 20-year-olds stunned with an incredible leap of maturity on Ride The Lightning. Thrash metal was born and was to set the world of hard music on fire for good.

Kill ‘Em All captivates with its fusion of classic heavy metal riffs, as exemplified by Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath, with the breakneck tempos of hardcore and punk, all fueled by the adrenaline of young, angry guys who don’t care one bit about musical convention or the glam-influenced rock sounds of the day. Even on their debut, Metallica amazes with a virtuosity you wouldn’t have expected from these youngsters, whether it’s Hetfield’s brutally precise riffs or Hammett’s light-fingered solos.
