With “St. Anger“, Metallica present their eighth studio album in 2003. With tempo and style changes in divine thrash speed metal style, James Hetfield and Co. pick up where their longplayers of the 1980s left off.
It took them six years to release St. Anger, but boy was it worth the wait. The album, produced by Bob Rock (he teamed up with Lars and his buddies in 1991), earned the group a Grammy for Best Metal Performance, and the more than six million copies sold show that it’s another must-listen earworm.
The brutal and beautiful St. Anger album was recorded in an old rented army barracks in Presidio, California during a time of turmoil that was documented in the movie Some Kind of Monster. Because of all the changes the band went through, they describe it as their most intense and personal album. Rock pushed them to hit their rawest nerves and emerge triumphant, like some kind of reborn garage band. St. Anger was also the catalyst for an insane touring period in which Hetfield and co. got all their problems out of their system on a crushingly exhaustive two-year world tour.
After the first edition of limited Metallica LPs on colored vinyl, the second edition now follows. Over the period from April to July, a Metallica studio album will be released on limited edition colored vinyl every month in chronological order.
Phase two includes the albums “Garage Inc.“, “St. Anger“, “Death Magnetic” and “Hardwired…To Self-Destruct“, which were released between 1998 and 2016.
Metallica’s eighth album, “Garage Inc.“, will be the first and will be available as “Fade To Blue” vinyl from April, followed by “St. Anger” as “Some Kind Of Orange” vinyl in May and “Death Magnetic” on a “Magnetic Silver” vinyl in June.
Finally, Metallica’s 11th album, “Hardwired…To Self-Destruct“, will be released as “Flame Orange” vinyl on colored vinyl in July.
