Familiar dark, unfamiliar hard

Paradise Lost have evolved their musical style a few times in the course of their almost 30-year career, from death metal to doom to gothic metal and dark rock.

In 2017 they now return a bit to their beginnings. For a long time they didn’t sound as hard as on their new album “Medusa“.

Eight songs were recorded by Nick Holmes (vocals), Greg Mackintosh, Aaron Aedy (guitar) and Steve Edmondson (bass) at Orgone Studios in Woburn, England. On the drums sat the only 23-year-old Finnish newcomer Waltteri Väyrynen. Jaime Gomez Arellano (Ghost, Cathedral) was responsible for the production of their 15th studio album.

With the two singles “The Longest Winter” and “Blood And Chaos” Paradise Lost already gave two previews of “Medusa“.

And they make it clear: Paradise Lost provide an official surprise in 2017, which should please new, but especially the old fans: “Medusa” is a usual dark, but strikingly hard return to their beginnings.
