On her album „Always On My Mind„, Norwegian singer and songwriter Rebekka Bakken transitions some of her favorite songs into her distinctive sonic cosmos between atmospheric Scandinavian pop and jazz.
Together with her band she lets classics like „Yesterday” by Lennon/McCartney, „Here Comes The Flood” by Peter Gabriel or „Why” by Annie Lennox sound in a completely new sound, as well as „Break My Heart Again” by Finneas O’Connell, who together with his sister Billie Eilish stands for a new generation of female songwriters.
In an intimate band setting with some of Norway’s finest session musicians, the multi-gold award-winning musician and producer unlocks mystical depths in the songs she selects. Rebekka Bakken skillfully orchestrates guitarist Eivind Aarset’s famous clouds of sound with the atmospheric organ and synthesizer pads of Jørn Øien and Torjus Vierli, which are transfigured around piano chords and the bass lines of Tor Egil Kreken and drum beats of Rune Arnesen. This multi-layered soundscape prepares the bed for the breathtakingly soulful voice of Rebekka Bakken, whose intensity has been compared by some to Janis Joplin.
