Seal’s second, self-titled album, released in May 1994, built on the impressive success of his 1991 debut and catapulted him into new spheres with the worldwide hit „Kiss From A Rose”. The album, produced by Trevor Horn, combines pop, dance and soul in 11 tracks, including such notable songs as „Prayer For The Dying” and the joint „Bring It On” with Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman from Prince and the Revolution. The album also includes a duet, „If I Could”, with the legendary Joni Mitchell.
The album reached the top of the UK charts and climbed to number 15 in the US, going quadruple platinum. The song „Kiss From A Rose” gained further notoriety after it was featured in the 1995 blockbuster film „Batman Forever„. This notoriety helped the song reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and secured Seal three Grammy® Awards, including „Record of the Year”, „Song of the Year” and „Best Male Pop Vocal Performance”.
To celebrate the 30th anniversary, Seal’s second album „Seal” (often referred to as „Seal II„) is being re-released in a remastered deluxe edition with an expanded tracklist. The 2LP edition contains 5 bonus tracks in addition to the 2024 remastered tracks from the original album. The bonus tracks include the B-side „Blues In E”, „Fly Like An Eagle” (a Steve Miller Band cover) and a version of „Manic Depression” recorded with guitar icon Jeff Beck.
