A number of pop stars have tried their hand at the repertoire of jazz standards and classic pop songs made world-famous decades ago by icons like Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole and Nina Simone. But hardly any of them could really hold a candle to their great idols. This is exactly what the British singer Seal now succeeds in doing impressively on the album „Standards„.

The singer, who in recent years has often been accused of selling his soulfully elegant voice short, can finally be heard here with timeless songs whose class no one can deny. His interpretations of classics like „Luck Be A Lady”, „I Put A Spell On You” and „Love For Sale” sound particularly authentic, also because Seal is supported by musicians who once accompanied Sinatra, Ella, Ray Charles and other legends themselves.

For the recording of Duke Ellington’s „I’m Beginning To See The Light,” he also invited as vocal partners the fabulous Puppini Sisters. „This is the album I’ve really always wanted to make,” Seal enthuses. „I grew up listening to music from the Rat Pack era. So I’ve dreamed all my life of recording these timeless tracks someday.”
