He’s an old hand in the business by now, but he’s nowhere near as old as he is on the cover of his new album: The Weeknd.
Following his mega-successes in recent years: the most successful radio single in 2021 with „Save Your Tears” (platinum), and the most successful song in 2020 with „Blinding Lights” (triple platinum), the Canadian R’n’B singer-songwriter begins a new chapter in 2022 with the release of his fifth long player „Dawn FM,” the follow-up to 2020’s „After Hours,” which reached number one on the charts in several countries, including Canada, the U.S. and the UK.
This is where he picks up with „Dawn FM„. A full 16 tracks await on the record, which features Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, The Weeknd’s real name, and a few prominent colleagues, including rappers Tyler The Creator and Lil Wayne, producer, composer and jazz legend Quincy Jones, experimental and electronic musician, composer and producer Daniel Lopatin aka Oneohtrix Point Never and actor and comedian Jim Carrey. The latter already turned out to be a big fan of the album when he tweeted in January, „I listened to ‘Dawn FM’ last night with my good friend Abel @theweeknd. It was deep and elegant and it had me dancing around the room. I’m thrilled to play a role in his symphony.”
A feeling that gets you as soon as you hear the first single: „Take My Breath” was released on August 6, 2021 and went straight into the Top 20 of the German charts. In the USA it was number six, in Canada number three.
