„Avonmore” is clearly a Ferry album. Distinguished and elegant instead of wild and unexpected.

Bryan Ferry picks up the thread again on his new album „Avonmore” and connects to the golden 1980s. With eight new songs and two cover versions – „Johnny And Mary” by Robert Palmer and „Send In The Clowns” by Stephen Sondheim – Ferry presents himself again as the cool-melancholic pop icon we remember from the past. The ten tracks encourage serene grooving along, but no one will dance off in a sweat to them. It would simply not be gentlemanly, not Ferry-like.

„Avonmore” by Bryan Ferry is dark, sensual, contemplative and melancholic. Ferry manages to be quite an entertainer despite these attributes. „Avonmore” is music you can relax and listen to. After the jazzy excursion of the previous album, the album sounds typically Ferry. It even develops its own retro 80s sound of the 2010s in some tracks, for example in „Midnight Train”, „A Special Kind Of Guy” and „Driving Me Wild”.

Ferry draws on proven co-musicians such as Nile Rodgers, Johnny Marr and Marcus Miller for „Avonmore.” Guests on the new album include or have included Flea, Ronnie Spector, Mark Knopfler, Maceo Parker, Johnny Marr, Nile Rodgers and DJ Todd Terje. Thus, new variations of what is ‘typical Ferry’ emerge when, for example, six or nine (!) guitars play in a song.
