Black Celebration is Depeche Mode’s fifth studio album and is considered one of the band’s darkest yet most atmospheric works. All eleven songs were written by Martin Gore, four songs – A Question of Lust, Sometimes, It doesn’t matter and World Full of Nothing – he also sings himself.

With the album title “Black Celebration” Depeche Mode laid a false trail. Despite its dark character, the songs on the record are neither about occult acts nor black masses. Instead, Martin Gore writes about feelings and the dark side of life, which includes a large portion of boredom. At the end of a black day, we can still celebrate that it’s finally over.

In their home country, “Black Celebration” reached number 3 in the UK charts. In Germany the album climbed to number two, in Switzerland even to number one in the charts.
