Holy Diver is the debut studio album by the American heavy metal band Dio, released in 1983. Vocalist Ronnie James Dio had just finished his first tenure in Black Sabbath, whose drummer, Vinny Appice, he took with him to put together his own band. The roster was completed by his former bandmate from Rainbow, Jimmy Bain, on bass and by the young guitarist Vivian Campbell, coming from the new wave of British heavy metal band Sweet Savage. The album was acclaimed by the music press and is the band’s most successful effort.

There are not many singers who can claim to be featured on a classic album. Ronnie James Dio achieved this at the latest when he made the fans happy with Holy Diver in 1983! The classic from 1983 has now been completely remastered and also includes a new interview with Ronnie James Dio, which was conducted by Paul Suter in July of this year in Ronnie’s home studio.

Holy Diver was critically acclaimed and a commercial success. “Rainbow In The Dark” and the title track added two timeless classics to the canon of heavy metal. The album also ranks #16 on Rolling Stone’s current list of the “100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time.”
