Kin Ping Meh is often lumped in with the Krautrock Psych/Prog bands that came out of Germany at the same time, but they’re really not a progressive band at all, and their strength is in their melodies, not their innovation.
Most of the songs are neither hard rock or soft rock, but somewhere down the middle. It’s hard to describe their music to someone who has never heard them before – while one song may remind me of The Moody Blues, others remind me of The Turtles, Deep Purple, Harry Nilsson, The Animals, or Pink Floyd. This is not to say their sound is dated – most of the songs are easily recognizable as 1970’s-era music, but others are almost impossible to date.
